Tag Day

Tag Day 2009
One of the Biggest Fundraisers of the Year!!

What is Tag Day?
All Band members raise money Saturday, September 12, by collecting contributions door-to-door in neighborhoods in the Oakton High School boundary. For safety, student teams go door-to-door asking for tax-deductible donations and turn in money collected.

Who Should Participate?
All Cougar Band members: Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Lab, Marching Band, Drumline, and Color Guard. This is a mandatory event for all Band members!!!

Why Do We Need a Tag Day?
Thousands of dollars are needed each year to run a complete band program, yet only the Band Director's salary comes from your taxes and the school budget. Donations from family, friends, and neighbors are needed to buy large instruments, buy concert tuxedos, marching band uniforms, hire supplemental staff, purchase music, and do instrument maintenance. In this way, Tag Day supports the entire band program.

A portion of your collections, about 30%, goes into your student band accounts to offset your personal band expenses. This means if you collect $100.00, 30 points will go into your student account. Points are equivalent to dollars.

When is Tag Day?
Saturday, September 12, 2009, 9:30 AM until mid-afternoon.

Where Do We Meet?
Each neighborhood has a "Host Home" with Tag Day materials.

How Can Band Families Support Tag Day?
Ensure your band student participates! Help your neighborhood Host Home by providing food or drinks, coordinate collection areas, drive students to collection areas, or tabulate donations. (Each Host Home will need help to tally the donations for each student.) Please support the Host Home volunteer when they call. We can't do it without your help!

Please contact Judy McNamee at 703-264-0291 or email if you have any questions about helping with TAG DAY 2009!
