Family Day at Orkney
Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011
2:00 - 9:00 pm

NOTE: pets are not allowed on the Orkney grounds;
please leave these family members home


What to bring for Family Day at Orkney:
  • All family and friends are invited:  there is no air conditoning at Orkney, so recommended dress is light colored, casual clothing - this is not a dress-up event
  • Your camera or video camera
  • Your cooler with your picnic dinner and lots of cold water to drink
  • A blanket or lawn chairs to sit on outside during dinner (chairs will be provided in the Pavillion for the concert)
  • Your spending money or checkbook -  there will be opportunities to purchase band clothing, fundraisers, etc.
Remember to save room in the car for your student's luggage for the ride home.
 

Schedule of Events

 7:00am Normal student schedule for the morning
11:00am Students change into t-shirts
Band pictures
12:30pm Students lunch
1:15pm Pack / clean up rooms - get ready for families to arrive
1:45pm Concert practice
2:00pm Families arrive - visit spirit wear and volunteer tables
3:00pm Parade
3:15pm Field show
3:45 pm Parents march the show!
4:15pm Students pack (except concert attire) and load bags on sidewalk outside of rooms
4:45pm Check out of rooms with chaperones and parents
Load students' belongings in parents' cars
5:15pm  Picnic dinner - either fill out the reservation form and enjoy a Subway meal or bring your own picnic
6:30pm Students dress for concert
Parents meet in Pavilion
7:00pm
- 9:00pm
Band concert
Taps
Stack chairs, load trucks
Depart Orkney- all students ride home with parents or make arrangements to ride with another family
11:00pm Meet at Oakton High School to unload trucks
