How to Achieve a Band Award

The Band awards program is designed to reward service to the band and community through a points program combined with a community service requirement.  It is our belief that the students have the ability and responsibility to make a significant contribution to the community through the sharing of their musical talents.

Each award is worth a total of 10 points.  The sequence of awards is:

Awards System
Students use their accrued points to earn band awards.  Once these points are used for an award, they are deducted from the total.  Unused points carry over from one year to the next.  Students may earn two awards in one year if they accrue enough points.

Community Service Component

In order for students to receive a band service award, they must complete the service component. Students are required to volunteer on a consistent basis, beginning after marching season, at one or more of our feeder elementary and/or middle schools. The student should contact the director(s) and make arrangements to complete the task(s). This can be anything from helping in their music library to helping a beginner prepare for solo-ensemble festival to assisting with area band. The volunteer hours should be consistent and with the knowledge of the school’s director. Upon completion, the student should write a description of the scope of the task and have the hours verified by the cooperating teacher (signature). A form will be available for this. All paperwork should be submitted by the deadline of May 1.
A Community Service Verification Sheet must be submitted with the Awards Point Tally Sheet.
