Dr. Tom Siebenhuhner is a veteran music teacher of more than twenty-nine years. A Cum Laude graduate of Lebanon Valley College (PA) in 1980, Dr. Siebenhuhner holds Masters Degrees from Montclair University in music performance and a Doctorate in Education from LaSalle University. In addition to being active professionally as a performer on the trumpet, he also composes and arranges music. Additionally, Dr. Siebenhuhner possesses a Supervisor’s Certificate from the New Jersey Department of Education. After 17 years as a very successful high school band director, Dr. Siebenhuhner took on the challenge of building an arts program in a fine arts magnet school from scratch. Since 1998, he has been band director and Fine, Visual and Performing Arts Chair of Westminster Academy (renamed the Dr. Orlando Edreira Academy). Under his tutelage, the Westminster Academy Advanced Bands have been had the opportunity to premiere a commissioned work (The Jasmine Flower) by Dennis Leogrande and have been selected to represent the Abbott Districts at the Educational Law Center's "Kids in Concert" Series. The Westminster Academy Jazz Ensemble was awarded the rating of Outstanding at the USSBA Jazz Festival, Rahway, NJ in the Spring of 2003 and Superior ratings in the “Musical Carousel” event in 2004 in Bethlehem, Pa.
Mr. Charles T. “Tim” Franklin served as the Director of Bands at Columbia High School (SC), Irmo High School (SC), South Lakes High School (VA), and James Madison High School (VA). He also served as Director of Bands and Orchestras at the Frederick County Visual and Performing Arts Academy (MD). Bands under his direction have performed at the National Concert Band Festival, the MENC National Convention, the Southern Conductors Symposium at the University of Southern Mississippi, and the University of SC Concert Band Clinic. Concert and marching bands under Tim Franklin’s direction have won numerous First Place Awards, Grand Championships and also represented SC in the 1993 Presidential Inaugural Parade. The Irmo Marching Band was a top 10 finalist at the Bands of America Grand Nationals in 1991 and 1992. Mr. Franklin is a five-time recipient of the National Band Associations “Citation of Excellence” and the ASBDA “Outstanding Young Band Director” for South Carolina and the Southeastern United States.
Mr. Jim Stegner recently retired as Director of Bands for 11 years at James River High School in Chesterfield County. James River High School has been a Virginia Honor Band in every year (14) of their existence. Mr. Stegner holds a Bachelor's Degee in Music from Colorado State University and a Master's Degree from Northwestern University. He has 37 years of experience and has taught at Falls Church High School, Lake Braddock Secondary, Woodbridge High School and James River High School.
Mr. Jeff Bryant served as Director of Bands at Greenbrier East High School in Lewisburg, WV, from 1980 – 1997 and during this tenure the marching band performed at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Grand Orange Bowl Parade, the Presidential Inaugural Parade and numerous NFL half-time performances for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and was a Bands of America Regional Finalist and National Semifinalists. Mr. Bryant is now the principal at Greenbrier East High School. He graduated with honors from Berklee College of Music and received the “Art Farmer Jazz Masters Award” for outstanding jazz trumpet performance. He holds a Masters in Music Education from Radford University, served as Director of Jazz Studies at Radford University, and holds a Master’s Degree in Leadership Studies from Marshall University. Musical credits include performances with Clark Terry, Chris Vadala, Vince DiMartino, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Ray Charles, Ringling Brothers, The Bo Thorpe Big Band, The Dennis Reaser Big Band, Soloist with the James Madison Jazz Ensemble, The Hal Walls Orchestra, The Benny Benack Orchestra, studio musician for CBS, trumpet for The Jefferson Street Strutters Dixieland Band, musician at The Greenbrier Hotel Resort and The Homestead Resort, and lead trumpet and musical director for The West Virginia Jazz Orchestra.
Mr. John Christian is a retired band director from the Harrison County, West Virginia, school system. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Fairmont State College and has two Masters Degrees in administration and in music from West Virginia University. He was the band director at Fairview High School in Marion County, band director at Washington-Irving High School in Harrison County, Principal at Sardis Elementary School in Harrison County, Assistant Principal at North View Elementary and Junior High School in Harrison County, Principal at Wyatt Elementary School in Harrison County, finishing his educational career as the band director at Bridgeport High School in Harrison County. In 1996 Mr. Christian received the 25 Years of Distinguished Service Award from the West Virginia Music Educators Association, and in 1998 he was named the West Virginia Band Director of the Year. In 2001 Mr. Christian was inducted into West Virginia Music Educators Association "Hall of Fame". He is sanctioned by the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission and the West Virginia Bandmasters Association as an adjudicator for middle school, junior high school, and high school band competitions. He has judged numerous concert band, marching band, jazz ensemble, and solo/ensemble festivals throughout the state, and has been an adjudicator for the Virginia State Marching Band Festival.
Mr. Barry Vingle is a native of Fairmont, West Virginia, He received his B.A. Degree from Fairmont State College and his Masters Degree from West Virginia University. Mr. Vingle is a member of the National Education Association, Phi Beta Mu music Honorary, the West Virginia Band Masters Association, and the West Virginia Music Educators Association. He is also a past President of the West Virginia Jazz Festival. In 1995 Mr. Vingle was named West Virginia Band Director of the year and in 1996 he received the 25 years of Distinguished Service Award from the West Virginia Music Educator's Association and in 1997 Mr. Vingle received The City of Fairmont Arts and Humanities Commission's Music Award. In 2002 he was inducted into the West Virginia Music Educator's Hall of Fame.
Ken Lipscomb retired in 2008 from 41 years as a high school band director in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. He received his B.A. in Music Education from Frederick College in Portsmouth, Virginia in 1967, and his Masters of Arts in Music Education from Madison College (now J.M.U.) in 1974. During these years he was selected to the very first consolidated All-Virginia Band held at UVA in 1963 and was 1st chair trombone in the first-ever All-Virginia College Band in 1965 (and 1966-67). He also was lead trombone in the 1964 All-American Band that toured Europe and ended their tour by playing at the 1964 World's Fair in New York.
Mr. Lipscomb's high school career is notable by the excellence of the Spotsylvania, Courtland, and Chancellor High School band programs. His bands yearly were the recipient of superior performance recognition in the areas of concert, marching, and jazz; and for the recognition of individual student performances in district and state events such as All-District Band, All-State Band, and the District Solo and Ensemble Festival. Lipscomb's bands at Courtland and Chancellor earned nineteen Virginia Honor Band recognitions since their conception in 1982. He also has been active over the years as a solo and ensemble judge, marching contest judge, and a judge for the V.B.O.D.A. State Marching Festival. Mr. Lipscomb is now an active retired member of the Virginia Music Educators Association, the National Band Directors Association, and is Past President of the Virginia Chapter of Phi Beta Mu, the International School Bandmaster Fraternity.
