Orkney Springs, Virginia
, is the site of the week-long summer band camp for the Cougar Marching Band and Color Guard. The entire camp program is under the direction and supervision of the band directors of Oakton High School. Music and marching instruction will be provided by a competent staff of clinicians and musicians. There will be adult chaperones and a nurse available around the clock. The camp provides a night watchman for security every night.

Orkney is a delightful experience for everyone. Band students who have been there can't wait to go back and parents fall in love with the history and the beautiful setting. The meals are great! During this incredible week students will be on the marching field each day at 6:30am and end the day in concert practice at 8:30pm. The week is divided into music instruction, practice sessions, field marching and concert rehearsals. There is a small amount of free time each day during which the students may swim, play tennis, etc. It is a tough schedule, but the kids tell us every year it is one of the best parts of the music program.

Families and friends are urged to visit Orkney Springs for Family Day. The fun starts with a parade down Main Street - the Cougar Marching band is the 27-time defending champion! Next is the premier performance of the field show, followed by a picnic dinner and a rousing band concert in Orkney's open-air pavilion. At the end of the day, students will check out of their rooms and ride home to Oakton with their parents.

Throughout the week, many photos are taken and posted nightly to the band website so you can get a peek into your student's week at Orkney.
